Description:

The Hill of Accumulated Elegance in the Gardens of the Forbidden City is a 10 meter high artificial hill carefully built from pieces of weathered stone with the Pavilion of Imperial Scenery on the top. This area is surrounded by very pretty gardens and a serenity that was enjoyed in the past only by the royal family and the concubines who lived in this walled city, The palace was flat, so the hill was the only way to view the outside world and to take in the vastness of the palace grounds, flowers, and the city beyond. They would only come to this hill once a year paying homage and respect to all things beautiful. The rock hill reminded them of that beauty can be imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. At the double Ninth Festival once every year, the emperors, empresses and imperial concubines climbed the hill along the path to escape misfortune on that day & protect them against danger. It is customary to climb a high mountain to avoid evil spirits and misfortunes. Beauty concurs all.
